If you would like to make a request,
e-mail Abie!
Abie,
Would you please play the beautiful balad by Willie Winfield and the Harptones called "I'm So In Love With You". If you are
able to mention who the request is for, it woud be my beloved wife Liz.
Thank you,
Bob
Abie,
I'd love to hear any or all of the following:
Mary Lee/Rainbows -
Wonder Why/Solitaires -
Woo Woo Train/Valentines -
Nights Curtains/Checkers.
Thanks,
Rick bronxbumlocustpoint
Abie,
Have you ever heard of a song called A lovers plea or Lovers plea, I think the singers
name was Mack or Max Vickery. It was about 1960 or 1961. I've checked everywhere and can't
find a thing.
Ron, Raymond, NH
Ray,
No, but I have three songs by that title. First here is "A Lovers Plea" by
Barbara Greene-1964, Next here is "A Lovers Plea" by The
Moonbeams-1959, and then here is "Lovers Plea" by
Tommy Lamkin-1955.
Abie,
Do you remember a song called Breaker of dreams by Johnny Mann and The Tornados?
Ron
Ron,
I dug it up just for you. Here is "Breaker
Of Dreams" by Johnny Mann and The Tornados.
Abie,
I'll give you the only line from a song that I can remember. Nobody I know has a clue even
my brother in law who's a real 50's music buff. I'm holding in my hand a picture of you
and I can't understand the reason we're through. That's all I can remember but I can hear
the beat in my head. It was early 50's, if you or one of your friends can figure it out
I'll be very impressed.
Ron in NH
Ron,
This was a little difficult, but I ran this by the experts on The DooWop Corner, and my buddy Bruce Woolf
gave me this: Here is "A
Picture of You" by The Elgins-1958. Another possibility came from BobbyBrooklyn1,
he suggested "A Picture
of You" by The Danleers.
Abie,
Love the shows on your site. I talked with Bob a week ago and asked if he could play an
old favorite of mine. He said he didn't have it, but if anyone did, you would have it. I
think the title is Where Have All The Doo Wops Gone by Jackie T. and the Rythm Jesters.
Thanks Abie and thanks Bob-- Thanks for keeping the music alive.
Ronald Barber
New Hampshire
Ronald,
The Rhythm Jesters are a current day DooWop group that have a CD titled "Where Have
All The DooWops Gone". There is a song on that CD titled
"Good Old DooWops".
I believe that's what you mean. Also on that CD is a tribute song to The DJ that kept the
DooWop sound alive for me for many years. So here also is
"The Ballad Of Don K Reed".
Abie
Abie,
Do you remember a song called Henrietta, I think it was about 1957-1959 and I can't
remember who sang it.
Ron
Ron,
I don't remember the song but I have it in my files. So, here is
"Henrietta" by Jimmy Dee and The
Offbeats.
Abie,
Can you play, I Remain Truly Yours by the Criterions and Priscilla by Eddie Cooley &
the Dimples?
Thanks,
Priscilla in Dallas, TX
Priscilla,
Thanks for writing. First here are the Criterians from 1959 with
"I Remain
Truly Yours". Next in your name here is Eddie Colley and The Dimples with a #20
smash from 1956, "Priscilla".
Abie,
How about "Picture in my Wallet"-Daryl & the Oxfords, and "No One
Knows"- Dion & the Belmonts? I'd Love to hear those.
Priscilla in Dallas, TX
Priscilla,
Thanks again for writing. Jay Siegal is best know for his work with the Tokens on
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and
"Tonight I Fell in Love",
but here he is as Darrel and the Oxfords with
"Picture in My Wallet".
We all know the many great songs Dion did solo (with the Del Satins) and before that with
the Belmonts. Here is Dion and the Belmonts with
"No One Knows".
Abie,
I'd like to add "Don't Pity Me" also by Dion & the Belmonts.
Have a great day Abie and a Happy Healthy New Year!
Priscilla
Pricilla,
Ok, Here again is Dion and the Belmonts with "Don't Pity Me".
Abie,
Abie, As I told you before, my husband was a Top 40 jock. I've been telling him all about
your great music and our conversations with each other. The one song in the world he wants
to hear is "Right Now Right Now" and instrumental on the Coral label. It was
Alan Freed's theme song and was played before every rock & roll show at the Fox and
Paramount. It was recorded by Big Al Sears, Sam the Man Taylor, and the Alan Freed
orchestra. If you can find this one, you'll really be our hero!!!!!
Priscilla,
Not all is possible but many things are. I just so happen to have it. So, Here is Big Al
Sears with "Right Now Right Now".
Abie,
Abie, I got the chance to hear one of your shows through Sam Ward at Audiooldies.net, and
would like to request the following song: Girl Of My Dreams by The Cliques. Thanks for a
wonderful show, and remember that doo wop will live forever! Thank You!
Don Rehrer
Mechanicsburg,PA
Don,
Thanks for writing! Jesse Belvin is best known for his #7 Smash R&B hit
"Goodnight My Love". He was
also a member of the Shields along with Frankie Ervin on the #12 1958 smash
"You Cheated". Here is Jesse
Belvin singing duo with Eugene Church as the Cliques on this #45 Pop hit from 1956,
"Girl Of My Dreams".
Abie,
It's Priscilla here in Dallas again. We've thought of another request. How about
"Zippity Doo Da" by Bobby Sox & the Bluejeans?
Priscilla,
Sounds like your a Darlene Love fan. So why settle for just one of her great songs.
Darlene had most of her hits with an all Girl Group from Brooklyn NY, The Crystals.
Produced by the notorious Phil Spector, they had a string of big hits. Here they are:
Also produced by Phil Spector was Darlene's other group, Bob B. Soxx and The Blue
Jeans. They had a few hits:
Abie,
Wanted you to know that I love your show. Beautiful music by great artists. I was
wondering if you ever heard of a group out of Los Angeles called The Superbs. Really good
songs, especially "Baby, Baby All the Time" There is one more, but at the
moment, the title escapes me. Anyway, great music. Thank you for continuing the music.
Rudy Frausto
Rudy,
Thanks for writing. The Superbs had one chart hit on the R&B Charts. That was Baby,
Baby, All The Time in 1964. It landed at #84. I looked in my collection and here are other
songs by the Superbs that I have.
Abie
Hi Abie,
I would appreciate if you can find and play the song "The Things I Love", Artist
is The Fidelity's on Baton Label... I believe it was in 1958. Thank you so much. I love
your site, it brings back so much joy of the rock & roll era and how lucky I feel to
have experienced it. Thanks again....
Anne
Hi Anne,
Thanks for writing. I was surprized to see that this great song only hit the pop charts
and found a home at #60 in 1958.
From Harlem in New York City here is Buddy Miles leading the Fidelity's with "The Things I
Love".
Abie
Abie
I would love to hear the sing I'm Feelin' No Pain by the Del Satins.
Bob from Fall River
Bob,
OK, From the Bronx NY, here are Dion's backup singers after he left the Belmonts,
The Del Satins, who also went by the name Campanions, with this song from 1963,
"Feelin' No
Pain".
Abie
Hi Abie,
We spoke a few times and you are always so helpful. I was hoping you can direct me to the
song "A Thousand Stars" I believe it was recorded by The Rivileers...Haven't
heard it ages and would like to hear it again Thanks so much. I hope all is well with
you..talk with you soon...take care and have a lovely day.
Anne
Anne,
You picked a really great song. The Riveleers were from Queens, NY and they recorded
"A Thousand Stars" in 1953. In the group was the well known actor Louis Gossett
Jr. Here are the Rivileers with "A Thousand
Stars".
Abie
Abie,
Songs Like "Those Oldies But Goodies","Play Those Oldies Mr DJ",
"Memories Of El Monte" "Rock and Roll Revival", and "Rock and
Roll Heaven" all have different songs mentioned in the lyrics. Do you recall any
other songs that do the same? I heard a song "Teenage Hall Of Fame". Can you
tell me who the artist is? Thanks,
Bob from Fall River
Bob,
There are probably much more. But, here are the ones you mentioned and a few more
suggested to me by members of the
DooWop Corner:
Abie,
Lookin' for a song that has haunted me since I was about 12 years old (app. 100 years
ago)... I don't think it was a doo-wop, more of a slow rockabilly type with a group.
Something like Jack Scott would have done. It was probably called "Mister
Jukebox", as the words repeat "Tell me please Mr. Jukebox, what can I do".
Probably 1957. Several years ago someone on the Doo-Wop Corner said they remembered it,
but didn't recall who the artist was. Said they thought it was on the Hickory label. Any
idea? Please don't say Ernest Tubb. I get that all the time when I ask. Thanks in advance.
Frank (DooWopFrank)
Frank,
I hope this is what you are looking for. From 1964 here is Vinnie Catalano with
"Please
Mr Jukebox Man".
Abie
Abie,
Maybe you can help me, do you have the song The Garbage Man? It might have been recored by
several groups, I'd love to hear it again. Thanks,
Bob from Fr Ma.
Bob,
Going all the way back to 1946, here are The Four Aces with
"Garbage
Man".
Abie
Abie,
Please add to your
NYC doo wop vocal group list; Nick Marco
& the Venetians on Dwain records (1959), Little Boy Lost/Would It Hurt You.
We all came from Hell's Kitchen (45th-47th Street on 9th Avenue). I sang baritone.
Keep up the good work...
Joe Walsh
Joe,
Thanks for writing! I have both songs:
"Little Boy Lost"
and "Would It Hurt
You".
Abie
Abie,
I recently found your Web site by listening to Cristine Vitale's show on the
radio, which is great by the way! I was wondering if you have anything by the
Andantes. Also, do you have anything on the label JOB? Also do you have
anything by Eddie Holland or Marv Johnson?
Thanks very much, I love your Web site.
Walter
Walter The Andantes
were a Motown Back up Group and Eddie
Holland was a member of the famous song writing team Holland-Dozier-Holland.
They both recorded some records on their own. I have some songs by these artists
along with one on the Job label and couple of songs by Marv Johnson including
his big hit "You Got What It Takes".
